BeOS is an operating system made by now defunct Be, Inc. for the original BeBox, the early Apple PowerMacs and Pentium I/II/III PC hardware.

Characteristics: ease of use, responsiveness, filesystem metadata capabilities, great API, feeling in charge of the system without being burdened by it.

As BeOS is growing old, the BeOS user/developer community are busy cloning and improving on BeOS R5 in the Haiku open-source project. Most BeOS applications will continue working on Haiku.
